Minister of Gender launches 2025/2026 Community Development Month

The month of May is designated as Community Development Month (CDM). During this month, communities are encouraged to work together on self-help projects such as construction of classroom blocks, road maintenance, and afforestation projects, among others.

Launching the CDM 2025/2026 implementation season in Lilongwe this week, the Minister of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare, Honourable Jean Muonaouza Sendeza, MP, said the initiative is meant to help communities take part in their own development projects.

She said the CDM Initiative, which was introduced in 2024 and is part of the National Community Development Policy, will promote the spirit of self-help and reduce over-dependence on government and donors.

According to the Minister, over 4,600 projects have been completed across the country since its inception. In 2025/2026, over 4,500 projects have been planned, and these include construction works, skills training, and environmental activities.

The Minister then urged all stakeholders to support the initiative and help build strong, self-reliant communities.
