The Minister of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare, Honorable Jean Muonaouza Sendeza, MP, on Friday conducted a high-level visit to the Tsolata II School feeding programme at Enukweni Primary School and Jonasi Early Childhood Development Centre in Mzimba North.
The Honorable Minister was accompanied by the World Food Programme (WFP) country director in Malawi, Hyoung-Joon Lim, and the head of cooperation of the European Union in Malawi, George Dura. The programme covers 50 primary schools and 16 Childhood Development Centers in Mzimba North. Its benefits include improved learner retention and performance, increased school enrollment, and community-driven school gardens.
The Honorable Minister applauded the programme, describing the inclusion of early childhood development centers in the programme as a game changer in the government's efforts in scaling up school feeding in Malawi. The project is supported by the European Union and the World Food Programme. Implementing ministries include Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare; Education; and Agriculture.
