Deputy Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Honourable Halima Daud, MP said on Tuesday, the Lean Season response that Government, with support from partners, has been implementing in Phalombe and other districts in the country signifies Government's commitment towards the welfare of people in the districts.

She pledged the government's continued support towards Social Cash Transfer beneficiaries and other vulnerable households to ensure that people are food secure.

The Government, the World Food Programme and Plan Malawi have provided maize, while the KFW has provided cash transfers to over 44,000 people, 10,248 of whom are beneficiaries of the Social Cash Transfer Programme (SCTP) in the district during the Lean Season.
